Williams, or I am so sick

The serious lack of sleep finally caught up with me in Williams, AZ. We had arranged to meet Liz's cousin for breakfast at 7:00 AM, as she had to be back in Prescott at 9:00. I was driving until 3:00 AM and in no shape to move at 6:00. I felt like I was going to be seriously ill, and so went back to sleep while Liz went to breakfast. I was disappointed as I both wanted to visit and try out the restaurant, Old Smokey's. I slept until almost an hour past checkout while Liz did our laundry. Since we were doing our laundry, the motel let us stay a little over. I was very happy about that, as I desperately needed the sleep.
Lunch was a muffin and some coffee in a little coffee house down Route 66 that had free wireless. I took a bunch of pictures after and we headed off to the Canyon that is Grand.
Well, dam!

Our original plan had us taking I-40 from outside Los Angeles to Memphis, but our Las Vegas detour meant we had to take the back roads to Kingman, AZ before picking up I-40. What I hadn't realized is that our route took us right over the Hoover Dam. I knew we were nearby and I had originally wanted to stop, when I thought we might leave L.A. at an early hour and get in and out of Vegas before nightfall. We were a couple miles out of Vegas before I realized the road went overtop of the dam. Naturally, we stopped for a few photos before continuing on our way to Williams to sleep.

Now I know where to go when I want to feel young. Millie's is a fancy little breakfast/lunch place in a part of Tuscon we hadn't explored yet. So, I managed to get us almost completely lost trying to find it. Luckily we were driving around the hills only a half-mile or so from where we were supposed to be, so once we looked at the map, we found it quickly.
Millie's is one of those fancy places that grandparents like. The decor is very old-fashioned and most of the other diners were dressed up. Not us, we had to drive to San Diego. Liz ordered the regular pancakes and, acting on a tip from Roadfood, I had the Swedish pancakes. The Swedish pancakes, actually, is why we were there. I wanted to try them. And, I have to say, they did not disappoint. They were light, fluffy folded thin pancakes that seemed more like crepes, covered in a thick lingonberry sauce. Excellent and highly recommended. Liz's "short stack" of two enormous pancakes, on the other hand, were not nearly so good. Not that they were bad, but as far as I'm concerned, any place with "pancakes" in the name should have awesome pancakes. And, I've certainly had better (Sweet Sue's in Phoenicia, NY comes to mind). Service was good, and they had a lovely display of Frankenstein toys in a case next to our table. If you're in Tucson, I recommend hitting Millie's for the Swedish pancakes.
